The Story Behind the Photograph
Deep within the Hoh Rain Forest, light rarely reaches the forest floor without passing through countless layers of branches, leaves and moss.
Walking among the towering trees, I was drawn to a small opening in the canopy where the sunlight found its way through the dense woodland.
The forest around me remained largely in shadow. Massive trunks rose toward the canopy, while moss-covered branches stretched between them, creating a remarkable network of natural forms.
Then the sunlight appeared between the trees, forming a delicate starburst against the darkness.
What interested me most was how such a small amount of light could transform the entire scene. Without changing the forest itself, it revealed its depth, textures and intricate beauty.
I wanted this photograph to preserve that quiet moment of discovery — a reminder that even in the deepest shadows, a little light can reveal something extraordinary.
